Mrs. Edit Lantos was a music teacher, choir conductor, course book author and a well-known propagator of the Kodály concept home and abroad. Working as leading teacher at the Mihály Fazekas Training Elementary and Secondary School of Budapest she taught the practical part of the profession not only to her students but also to future music teachers. Parallel to her schoolwork Mrs. Lantos contributed to the music lessons held by the elementary school of the Hungarian Radio.
Mrs. Lantos was the second conductor of the KISZ Központi Művészegyüttes for 25 years. She led the mixed choir and the women’s choir to win first prize at several choir competitions across Europe. After the sudden death of her husband Mr. Rezső Lantos it was her who kept the choir alive and led them until 1980.
In the years to follow Mrs. Lantos was invited to numerous music institutions in Canada and the USA to deliver courses on the Kodály concept. Thus, she taught music teachers at the Kodály Music Institute in Boston, at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, and also in Calgary and Hamilton.
Mrs. Lantos wrote music course books and teachers’ handbooks for elementary school classes 1-3 together with her colleague Mrs. Lukin. These books are considered to follow in standard those written by Mr. Zoltán Kodály – Jenő Ádám. The revised edition of the course books written by Mrs. Lantos and Mrs. Lukin are still to be found in the catalogue of school coursebooks.
