About the choir

The predecessor of the „Csokonai Vitéz Mihály” prize winning Budapesti Lantos Kórus (Budapest Lantos Choir) was founded in 1950. They continued performing under the name Budapesti Ifjúsági Kórus (Budapest Youth Choir) from 1990. In March 2017 they changed name to Lantos in memory of the Liszt laureate conductor, founder of the choir Mr. Rezső Lantos. The repertoire of the choir consists of masses, oratorios, and a cappella pieces (sacred choral pieces, poetry set to music, folk song adaptations) many of which were specifically written for or dedicated to the choir or its conductor. During the choir’s long history, they have taken part in numerous festivals and competitions with great success. They have toured the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Austria, France, and many others. They have contributed to numerous CD recordings, not to mention their own CD productions.

Foundations

The most important mainstay of the over 70 year’s continuous activity of the choir is the support of our audience and the zealous voluntary work of our members. We have created and maintained two foundations so that we can perform the tasks of organizing concerts the most effectively. We are thankful to the organizations whose inviting applications and supporting offers help realize our dreams.
